There’s a lot to look at in the drawings of Anton Vill. Be warned, many are NSFW due to their strange Bacchanalian collages of flesh.
Do no expect anatomically correct. Expect elaborately chaotic melanges of faces and organs, in piles, in pieces…in anything but natural (and at times stirring) physical form.
I could have sworn I’d posted about Marco Mazzoni before, but I was thinking of Meghan Howland (another artist fond of painting faces obscured by flowers and birds!).
Oh, he had me at the Tarsier…
…and entwined bundles of wildlife.
I wish there were an artist statement so I could get his take on the subject matter. I’ve had clear images of flowers sprouting from (and/or) covering human faces in meditation exercises, but I imagine Mazzoni’s images have personal meaning unique to him.
Most pieces are done in colored pencil, which allows for a gorgeous softness and makes the vivid colors pop (and sometimes allows eyes and faces to glow by contrast in that I can only call “exorcismal” intensity).
Susanne Apgar has captured my eye as of late.

Swedish art duo Bigert & Bergstrom offer an innovative way to look at photography in their installation entitled Mikrokosmos.
These spherical photos, vividly real yet oddly alien, are illuminated from the inside. I love the way pieces of tiny worlds are joined together in conglomerates that resemble molecular structures suspended in space.
Brazilian artist João Carvalho is only 15 years old, yet he demonstrates a remarkable talent for creating three dimensional illusions in two dimensional space.
He just started drawing earlier this year, and can already achieve excellent character replication and figure studies with mind-bending ripples in space.
There are some impressive sketches that do not involve warping space as well!

There is very little information about Andy Hixon on his art website or blog, but his subjects are fantastically odd.
Their bulbous heads and tiny eyes remind me slightly of Scott Radke’s work.
I’d be curious to know what mediums he works with…
When I was a kid, I went through a phase where all of my desk supplies, notebooks and stationary were Ebru. Now, I’m dying to learn the technique myself at home.
Paper marbling is a method of aqueous surface design, which can produce patterns similar to smooth marble or other stone. The patterns are the result of color floated on either plain water or a viscous solution known as size, and then carefully transferred to an absorbent surface, such as paper or fabric. Through several centuries, people have applied marbled materials to a variety of surfaces. It is often employed as a writing surface for calligraphy, and especially book covers and endpapers in bookbinding and stationery. Part of its appeal is that each print is a unique monotype.
Here are two brief videos demonstrating the technique. I find it utterly hypnotic and magical.

Rafahu’s brightly colored pieces draw upon familiar aspects of pop culture (many of those famous Warner Bros. bullseyes that most of us associate with childhood), and gives them an ominous gleam.

What Gabriel Picolo calls “doodles” are pretty great little pieces of art (I wish my doodles looked like this! I may be a multimedia craftaholic, but if I just take a pen and draw in a notebook it looks like a kid did it).
I feel like these belong in a graphic novel.
I’m partial to this one due to its symbolic implications; the personas and facades we adopt that hang over us, to be called upon as occasion dictates.
…and I miss having cats. Though I do not miss the unfortunate watery lessons they learned the hard way by falling into a full bathtub when mommy wasn’t looking.
