I just looked through hundreds of Eva’s tattoo designs (she is associated with Daft Art Tattoo, but that’s about all I can tell you since the sites are not in English).

I first noticed her designs that mimic cross stitch patterns. Pretty great.

But I love her style in general.

Unfortunately, my screen capture function doesn’t seem to be working right now so I couldn’t even grab many of my favorites to post.

I wish I could have shown more of her wildlife creations…

Manifestation was the first painting I saw from Michael Ramstead. I love this representation of the colorful, boundlessly imaginative world we inhabit in our peaceful altered states.

Other works are slightly more menacing…

…or alien.

Is this an ominous image of the undead ushering a child into her doom? Is the skeleton excited to show her fantastic hidden realms? Is he just playing hide and go seek?

Although he’s a talented portrait artist, many of his pieces combine pop culture, technology, cryptids, ghosts and nature (as you may have guessed, those are my favorites.

Telmo Miel is a talented Dutch street art duo comprised of Telmo Pieper and Miel Krutzmann.

From the artist bio:
After [meeting at the Willem de Kooning] academy they moved to the Sober-Concept Store, where Sober-Industries (also academy-friends) just started their new studio and shop space. This is the spot where the company ‘TELMO MIEL’ became official in the beginning of October 2012.

Working together seamlessly, they both enjoy working in realistic styles. With loads of contrast in subjects. Technique and style have a high priority in the artwork of Telmo & Miel, true craftsmanship is what they want to produce.

They work separately on ideas for murals and come together with the sketches to see if combinations can be made. The result is usually very surrealistic, with attention to detail. They always work on the same piece together and are able to switch places when ever wanted or needed.

As the collaboration progressed between Telmo Miel and all the other creatives anchored at the Sober Store, the overall creative platform was named Sober Collective. A team & family of creatives that can support each other in any way necessary. Everyone with their own set of skills, so endless conceptual combinations were made possible.

Luca Luce is a makeup and visual artist who creates incredible illusory hand art.

He blurs dimensions and space, sometimes with the use of little “props” to complete his designs.

…and sometimes through pure technique and perspective.

My computer is having issues saving images, so check out his site for many monsters and much creepy, hand-y goodness.

Hikari Shimoda blurs the boundaries between cuteness and horror in her neon-spattered manga style depictions of children (often in heroic costume).

She feels the ambiguity and fluidity of childrens’ identity makes them excellent subjects

Some are sweet, yet slightly soul-less…

And some paintings look like the fallout after an explosion at a toy factory.

Lukas Brezak paints plenty of things other than cats, but I’m going to focus on cats. Because…cats.

Hypnotic…

The following image reminds me of how I often wonder what my little darlings Dr. Morbius and Ms. Nimbus are dreaming. I have yet to dress them in teeny night caps (you might peg me for a cat dresser-upper, but no).

Can you see the resemblance?

He’s grown substantially (into a mushy sweetheart) since his kitten mugshot there, but I still see the fiendish eye gleam daily. Nimbus looks on with her typical nonchalance.

My kindred spirit Cat referred to Spoon Theory today in a kind comment about my health. I immediately wanted to symbolically give her a special spoon, and the best way I could think to do so was with an image search for the most bizarre renditions of the final Hey Diddle Diddle lines.

Even as a child, I thought this Mother Goose nursery rhyme was truly ridiculous. I guess all nursery rhymes are. But if you need a refresher for this one:

Turns out anthropomorphized plates and flatware inspire a wide spectrum of artistic interpretation, both vintage and modern. Take a look!

Leslie Ann O’Dell uses photography and digital manipulation to create haunting portraiture, often with superimposed landscapes.

All of her pieces seem to create a simultaneous feeling of strength and vulnerability in her subjects.

Although most work incorporates photography, some pieces are entirely constructed/painted/illustrated from imagination.

Her website is down at the moment (at least for me; not sure if it’s maintenance), so I’ll link to Lizz Lopez’s Facebook page.

Aside from the face, the hands are perhaps the most expressive part of the body, and Lopez is truly gifted in her depiction of expressive hands. I could not look away from this:

In a number of pieces, flesh fades to bone…alive and possessing stories to tell, with a subtle reminder that it’s all ephemeral.

She has many other talents, but allow your eye to get lost in the gnarls and folds of these soulful digits…

It looks like there used to be a livejournal for di0_0ib, but the link I’m providing is the biggest current collection of work I could find online (sent by a kind reader in response to a mystery artist post).

All dib0_0ib work seems to be done on sketchbook pages. This is some pretty intense sketching, filled with bizarre creatures from alien world’s (and some interesting variations on creatures from our own).

From the artist bio:
Veks [developed] his own style: an oneiric, surreal one, while integrating other various influences. I highly encourage you to step into the world of BAKEA (Juan Carlos Paz), and delight in all the strange monsters.

I love his use of warm, bright colors…and varying numbers of eyes.

I might actually go to the beach in the summer if I could see things like this.

…Or willingly step outside in a winter coat.

I’m not surprised that Allen Williams has worked with Guillermo Del Toro, as his creatures are strange and wonderful, with a slightly dark, haunting aesthetic.

His use of pointillism is excellent.

I’ve seen a number of gear, machinery and various android stylings in tattoo art, but perhaps none so unique as this brightly colored gem from Bez at Triplesix Studios:

Mark Bryan describes painting as a process rather like dreaming while awake: a direct link to the subconscious.

Some stirring, tumultuous, apocalyptic images certainly arise…

He very rarely plans his paintings out beforehand (except for the political work) and prefers to see where each one takes him as it goes.

His portfolio also contains numerous war related images. He states:

Although turning inward is my first instinct and love, I can’t always stay inside my head and ignore what’s going on in the world. When the circus turns especially ugly or when a good idea appears, I feel the need and responsibility to make some kind of comment. Humor and satire have been my way to confront serious topics which are often too grim to portray directly.

There is always some satisfaction for me in pointing out the absurdities of human behavior and making fun of the villains of the day. I don’t know if this kind of work has any effect on the situation, but at least it has a therapeutic value for me and others of like mind.

Nathalie Lagace creates hybrid creatures that convey the raw, inexplicable emotions of being trapped in a limbo between worlds.

They create a palpable cognitive dissonance as cuddly human baby limbs seamlessly morph into animal parts. The faces silently speak of sadness, discomfort, and at times…peace.

She also has a series of plant hybrid pieces that tempt the mind to “figure them out.” Thought provoking work, indeed.
